I'd be happy to share the findings, pitfalls, mistakes made, etc. That's where I'm at today, comparing the unmodified camera one model down the family tree and the modified bigger brother model. #PANASONIC WM 61A MODS#I tried two mods on the original ECM capsule, then let it hang out of the camera for fear the camera wouldn't survive a third surgery, then replaced the ECM, then made a couple bias changes, then a best guess circuit analysis to up the size of the coupling/dc-blocking capacitor. Maybe I'll wait before dumping more details here. #PANASONIC WM 61A MANUAL#I found a service manual for a 3rd model online and base my assumptions on the camera circuitry on this.better than nothing. We actually have two cameras that are in the same seris and I hope similar, but comparing the modified and unmodified recording adds another level of frustration. Both environments offer challenges.indoors typically having drums and amplified bass that overload the camera. I was almost pleased with it yesterday, considering I made a recording outdoors of some street musicians on a very windy day by a busy intersection.challenging conditions, but that's the purpose of the project.some indoors, some outdoors. There is either further improvement to be made, or I'm wasting my time. #PANASONIC WM 61A PDF#I'm on version 2.2 or maybe 2.3 now (lost track). Is this a good thread to engage in some discussion about interpreting my results obtained with 3-4 attempts to modify, then outboard, an ECM capsule in a digital camera to improve the video's audio? It could be interesting to see how fast that goes down. That's more than enough for me to play with, and maybe they'll end up going for big bucks on ebay and can go toward my retirement. I've ordered two of the replacement type to try them out. ![]() The replacement part is by PUI Audio and in the same price range: PANASONIC ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS Description: MIC COND ANALOG OMNI -35DB I also found the ceramic disc capacitor at Digi-key. It looks like the microphone capsules the article recommends (Panasonic WM-60AY) are no longer made, but I found the Panasonic WM-61A capsules that seem to be a good substitute. Please click on the link below for more information on possible substitutes. I have been looking at Digi-key for these components.
